There are a number of government schemes that support people on low incomes and certain benefits are also available. This can be in the way of cash assistance or grants to upgrade heating & Insulation.

Thi post is primarily to educate people on what cash assistance is available to those on a low income.
Winter Fuel Payment
You are entitled to a tax-free payment of £100 – £300 to assist you with paying your heating bills.
Who Is Eligible For A Winter Fuel Payment
You were born on or before 5th May 1953, and receive
- A state pension,
- Pension credit,
- Jobseeker’s allowance
- Income related employment and support allowance,

Cold Weather Payment
The government will give a payment to older people and those on certain benefits, to help cover heating costs when temperatures hit zero in your area.
They will make a payment of £25 for every seven consecutive days that the average temperature is – or is forecast to be – 0°C or below.
The payment should be paid into the same account your benefits are paid into, within 14 working days of the cold weather.

The Warm Home Discount
The big energy suppliers are legally required to give certain people a rebate of £140 on their energy bills between Octobers – April.
Those who qualify include people who receive pension credit and low income families.

Those who receive certain benefits and are struggling to pay their bills may be able to arrange for the benefits office to pay the fuel bill automatically out of their benefits and contribute an agreed amount.
